By installing the greasemonkey script mentioned in Flickr: GeoTagging Flickr you get the capability to have google maps on the same page as flickr if the image has been geotagged.
Following on from my earlier install of Uniform Server, I thought I’d check to see that wordpress can be installed on the server (which it can).
Extended entry has my dummies guide to installing on Uniform which is not much different to the installation at Installing WordPress official site but may help someone.
I can now upload images in firefox again. (see this post for when it failed).
I ran firefox in safe mode using firefox -safe-mode and I was able to upload an image to flickr ok. This meant that the problem was a conflicting/corrupt/flakey extension. I went through my list of extensions and deleted some that were duplicate in other extensions and tidied up the ones I no longer needed. I removed informeter, livelines, tab clicking options, undoclosetab, sitebar and evernote extensions and the problem went away. I reinstalled sitebar and evernote (as I use these) and the browser doesn’t crash.
Rather than paying the 10cents a minute on our current US phone provider to ring my sister in the uk I signed up for the skypeout service this afternoon. The annoying thing is that you have to pay 10euros up front but that gets you a rate of 1.1p/minute to us,uk,australia etc. So the 37 minute phone call cost about 40p. compare that to the 3 minute phone call on BT that she made to me at 27p. The quality was excellent – no different to a normal phone. The only downside is I don’t have a cordless headset whereas I do have a cordless phone so I had to sit at the computer, but that means you can look at web pages at the same time.
Now if only she would sign up for skype herself – then it would be totally free (apart from the 10euro’s I’ve just spent in prepaid time that unfortunately expires. That will however will probably come in handy for calling my parents and other non-broadband enabled uk technophobes)
I woke up early this morning and for the past 3-4 hours I’ve been listening and watching to the stream from the bbc on the bombs in london. There are some first hand photos on flickr at bomb, London, and adders,Jim Christian, moggan, drebben and a pretty scary one at qwghlm who got the photo from Alfie
I’ve seen things like this before, but a list of WindowsXP services is handy.thanks Download squad
The missing code in the VS2005 tutorial has now been added so I can continue programming. However, they other problem I had of errors when installing the product has been marked as resolved due to not being able to reproduce it! If only helpdesk calls could be closed like that…
Uniform Server looks like a promising Windows Apache Mysql PHP server. Currently I’m using foxserv but it has not been updated for years – this one promises to be kept up to date and the next version is apparently around the corner.
If you have a BT line, then go to BT privacy page you will get free caller id (and signed up for the telephone preference service). This will save you 1.75 a month and reduce your junk phone calls.
