A more incompetent service than Fifth Third bank!

I thought things couldn’t get much worse with the state of Banking but today I got a letter to my US address from Abbey saying that they can’t change the address to my US address! They need a notarised copy of my passport sent to them. The last time I spoke to them on the phone they only wanted a photocopy of the passport. I thought the easiest way around this would be to just close the account but it seems that despite having a valid login to my Abbey account, I don’t have any accounts attached to the account to make any payments from it. They don’t have 24 hour banking via phone, there is no email address to contact them and then they have the cheek to suggest that I might want to use their offshore banking facilities!

More event id searches and exchange fixes.

By adding the following to the registry

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchUrl\event]

And then entering “event 1074” into my address bar it will take me straight to the eventid website with that event listed.
I’ve also had a couple of issues with exchange this week – MAPI client opens more than the default value of certain server objects occured for one user who has more that 500 folders in her inbox – I’ve increased the default value so that shouldn’t happen again.
Also the error Error: The Template Persistent Cache initialization failed for Application Pool” AppPoolName: because of the following error: Could not create a Disk Cache Sub-directory for the Application Pool. The data may have additional error codes: should be fixed by kb article 332097 – a problem that has been occuring for a while with no known fix working (so here’s hoping)

It’s cold!

Rob’s posted some cold photos and mentioned that he didn’t have his thermals when he went out for a walk. On Thursday night we had a similar experience when we went to the Columbus Zoo lights opening night. I didn’t have any thermals but I did have three pairs of pants on (thats trousers to the brits) a shirt, two sweatshirts and a coat so I was nice and warm under all the layers but it was freezing cold – too cold to take photos with the camera. We had a good time although it was extremely crowded – loads of people were there. Didn’t see (m)any animals but we had a great time and went back to Donatos pizza afterwards – delicious!

Fifth Third in the dark ages (again)

I can’t believe what I’ve just been told by a banking advisor with Fifth Third – apparently you can’t send money from a Fifth Third account to another more up to date bank in the US via electronic payment. I’d love to know how money is meant to be moved from one account to another. Having asked to speak to a manager I get the same person on the phone telling me to do enter details that just do not exist on the website……And I thought the Royal Bank of Scotland Idiots was bad!

Symantec Updates are not so silent…

I was at a client site this afternoon and discovered that installing the latest patch as per the instructions doesn’t give the silent install that is meant to happen. You need to ensure you read the whole set of instructions first as otherwise you follow the steps and when you get to step 17 after setting the install off you then realise that the vpremote.dat needs editing FIRST! At this point you discover the silent install is extremely loud and colourful as the swearing echoes around the room as pc’s start to reboot with no warning whatsoever.

Exchange and Avaya voicemail

Whilst the server was down we also took the time out to prove the fact that if a voicemail message is left on the avaya IP Office system whilst the mail server is unreachable, then the user NEVER gets the voicemail. The voicemail box fails to queue the voicemail for delivery at a later date -something that the tech’s didn’t acknowledge as a problem. The fact that users could end up not receiving voicemails or have any trace of them yet the caller knows they left it seems a pretty major bug to me. I’m looking forward to bringing *that* up at the wrap up meeting.
