feedster registration and database design is broken

Now feedster is really starting to annoy me as their whole username/password/email account system is broken.
When you sign up for a username and password at feedster you also give an email address. However, you can have multiple accounts with the same email address in the database (as I’ve just proved by logging in with a new accountname and the same email address that is already valid on their database). However, if you have forgotten the password for an account and request a new password, the new password is unlikely to be for the original account that you signed up with – therefore you can never log in with this original account.
However, if you then login as a new account (my third account now) and try to claim the feed it originally says that the feed is not in the database and it needs to be added and then when you click on the add this feed to the database you get “string(73) “Duplicate entry ‘http://feeds.feedburner.com/absoblogginlutely’ for key 1″” followed by “Thank you for letting us know about this feed. We’ll index it on our next pass (generally within the next 1 to 3 hours)!” So we now have the situation where user account names do not match up with email address’s and the passwords AND there may, or there may not be more than one unique urls in the database.
I actually caught the aim account online last week and asked if they could have a look at it and they said they would later in the day but it still doesn’t work – very frustrating.
Update After posting this I go down to the pc where I was originally working and see an IM giving me a working username/password – so thanks to feedster2003 on IM – now I just need to delete the spurious accounts 🙂
Update2 Now that I’m in, I can’t change my password – I’m guessing it is because it goes something like this….. update password=”new password” where username=username and oldpassword=oldpassword and emailaddress=emailaddress and I bet one of those is wrong….

Happy Spring

Friday was unseasonally hot with temperatures apparently reaching 18degrees which is pretty good for the uk. I think it was spring trying to show us that it was ready for today (first day of spring). However the effort was clearly too much as Saturday and Sunday have been dreary and overcast – but at least it is not raining.

Exporting the cats to america

4 phone calls, 3 departments and a very hard to understand voicemessage I have found the Importation of Pets and Other Animals into the United States page (this page also has information on birds, dogs, monkeys and turtles) which states “Pet cats are subject to inspection at ports of entry for evidence of infectious diseases that can be transmitted to humans (zoonotics). If a cat appears to be ill, further examination by a licensed veterinarian might be required. There is no rabies vaccination requirement for cats. Following entry into the United States, all cats are subject to state and local vaccination requirements. Looks like we don’t need any further documentation as far as the states are concerned. The airline needs some paperwork too though…..
That zoonotics makes a nice word-of-the-day.

Print css updated

I’ve drastically updated and corrected my css stylesheet for when you print this blog using <link rel=”stylesheet” type=”text/css” href=”styles/print.css” media=”print” />
On the main front page the adverts and navigation bar no longer appear and the text is set to wrap within 3% of the page so everything fits nicely which avoids the annoying habit that other pages have where the right hand side of the page is missing from printouts.
Im currently revamping the individual archive pages which were using a messy style sheet based on the default mt installation and not the css file that I originally thought!
I’ve not rebuilt all the old entries as this will take time to process and I don’t want to run this everytime I make a change so only new posts will get the new css settings.
Update Individual item pages now carry the same style and print cleanly….next stop are the category archive pages.

Adsense is here….

After Neil posted his adsense earnings I *really* got motivated to start displaying some ads on this page. LIke Neil I do get quite a few hits to these pages, mainly from google searches for technical answers so the way i figure it is that if I’m providing content for google then they may as well pay me for it (in some small way). We’ll see how it goes. At least if I (or you readers) don’t like it then I can take it off. As for the regular readers I doubt it will make much difference to you as you are using rss readers aren’t you?
