Scriptx has an activex control you can use to enable you to automatically print pages but NOT display the dialog box. Might be handy in a kiosk environment where you don’t want users fiddling with the print settings….actually make that ALL environments 🙂

Library elf is a good webpage that allows you to get email notifications and rss feeds of your books that you have borrowed/waiting to borrow from the library. Although the Columbus Metropolitan Library already has email notification, the good thing about this is that you can list all the items from all your family members in one place. That way you know who has what out (or if your wife has reserved something under your library card!)
I’m still looking for a book reading tracker app and haven’t found one yet. However, this might be a good application to get started with .net
For some reason the rss feed in my WordPress installation had got broken along with the permalinks. Initially I just thought it was the rss feed (as that is what I was reading). RSS feeds can be broken if you are not on the latest version of wordpress, which you should be due to security problems, so I was a bit baffled as to why it wasn’t working. Rebuilding the permalinks seemed to fix it though.

We also went to the zoo yesterday and we were amazed that a certain Anna was not with us as we heard all about how vultures keep themselves cool by pooing down their legs and how when they are scared they throw up their last meal at the predator as the stink will distract them. A couple of minutes later after hearing this wonderful news we were able to see this in action as the vulture flapped around from the handlers arms, scaring a lady right next to it, and then as it was flapping upside down it got scared……..
There were not as many photo opportunities with the animals as there was last time. I think this was due to the heat and most of the animals were sleeping. There were also a lot more young kids around who kept running in front of me as I was trying to take photos or they would yell at the animals and scare them off – I need to find out if the zoo has adult only times. The gorilla’s were true to form though and were pretty active and they still seemed to enjoy frightening the visitors by suddenly slapping the glass that they had their faces pressed to.
Yesterday I got the news that I didn’t get the job that I was hoping for. A shame as the company seemed like a really nice place to work at/for. The HR person was really good though and gave me two phone numbers of contacts in recruiting companies that I’ll be chasing up early next week. I did come down with a cold yesterday so I’m spending today in bed with the old laptop and wireless adapter as I’ve finished reading the library book (Fear Nothing by Dean Koontz) that I started yesterday evening.
The preceding post was because I signed up for 43 things via allconsuming.net. I was hoping that it would give me the facility to have an online list of books that I’ve read from the library along with the ability to have a list of books that I’d like to borrow/buy. However it doesn’t look like this 43things is the way to go about doing this. I guess I could always blog each book, pointing to amazon or something, but its not really a convenient way of doing things. I’m also looking at using MediaMan as a way of storing this information, with books that I’ve borrowed from the library going into a category called “From Library” and the books that I own going into another category called Own.
Mediaman is free tracking software for media and books and works fairly well and doesn’t have ads in it unlike the free version of dvdprofiler. DVDProfiler works great and was very easy to import my dvds off the barcodes on the covers, but its export routine is not usable by MediaMan as DVDProfiler decides to use its own internal version of the barcode (dropping the first and last digit).
So, has anyone got any suggestions of software/websites that will allow you to keep an online reading list? Rss feeds would be great too.
