According to Microsoft Watch, Software Update Services has been renamed “Windows Update Services” and the newest beta is on its way to testers (ie me). I’ve not had any notification from Microsoft about this but it will be interesting to see how different it is.
A friend was getting a problem with Windows Media Player with a “GetIUMS could not be located in Dynamic LInk Library MSDART.DLL”. There is a good mini-faq which covers this problem and lots of other questions on Windows Media Player – well worth reading for future use.
I never knew my post about Jamie Oliver’s Dad’s pub would make such interesting reading that I’d get invited to school’s to talk about it. But that’s what has happened in the latest comment on this page. Somehow I don’t think they actually read the page and I also think they are likely to fail their assignment. OR I could give up my job and do personal appearances for famous people when they are too busy to do it themselves.
Rocketinfo.com – A Free Personal Web-based RSS News Reader looks quite good. Pencils you might want to sign up for this just so you can see what RSS is all about.
I know that kids used to bring home the school guinea pig or hamster, but bringing home an alligator on the school bus seems to be asking a bit too much. I’ve no idea why the bus driver let the alligator on – I know there’s no way I’d let something like that on my bus. Thanks Angela for the post
I’ve started to see quite a lot of press about Skype and did wonder how they were going to make their money as their plan to offer free voice calls to other skype users seemed to be a great idea but bound to crash under the volume. However, The Register reports that Skype are likely to charge for premium services. Not sure what these would be. I don’t know anyone who uses Skype – hands up anyone?
From a technical mailing list I received today, apparently if your PST file goes over 2GB then it will get corrupted. However, Microsoft offers a tool that truncates oversized PST and OST files so you can recover at least some of the information in the folder. Commonly referred to as the “Crop Tool,” this file is now available from the Microsoft’s Exchange 2000 Tool: PST2GB Web page. Although this won’t ensure full recovery of all the data, it may help to recover *some* data.
I had a problem with “There was no response from your mobile device while checking for out-of-date appointments” on the Dell this morning when trying to synch. It worked earlier today and suddenly stopped working. A quick google search turns up several results, but ActiveSync Troubleshooting Guide – Synchronization Errors has the answer and lots of other answers too which is why I’ve linked to this one.
Kristen suggested that we went to ReaseHeath college for their lambing open day. A quick search on google shows a blog entry for last years lambing which explains how all the lambs are born at the same time of the year. We were very fortunate to see and hold lots of lambs – most of which had been born early this week and we were even more fortunate to watch a 2 year old ewe give birth to the first of twins – that was a really neat sight and something that neither Kristen or myself had seen before. I took some pictures but not sure how they’ll come out as the flash is pretty useless.
