After giving just over a weeks notice on the previous patch for daylight savings time, TODAY they announced a new service pack. Just what do they think IT professionals are doing this week? We don’t need to start installing more patches on servers 3 days before DST kicks in. I’m already working at 10pm as it is!
Month: March 2007
Our UPS started acting up last week so I contacted APC (who make Conext UPS’s) and I just received an RMA and notification of shipment – funnily enough their email routine is broken as the tracking number shows up as 5.0751E+14
We received an email from Verizon to inform us that the Monitorsync software that synchronizes Exchange with Verizon’s web service (and then cellphones) also needs a patch for daylight savings time. Great timing with less than a week to go!
I did my first Exchange server/Timezone change tonight and the process is more complicated than it should be, but not as complicated as it could be. My notes from the patch is in the extended entry but note that I am not an expert and that advice should be taken from Microsoft’s official DST website
I can finally select my blogs within MovableType and not get the Can’t call method “entry_id” on an undefined value at lib/MT/App/CMS.pm line 1956 error message. Although drastic, the solution was to truncate the mt_tbping table as per the instructions in the MovableType forums. Unfortunately I missed the solution on the forums until someone posted on the page yesterday.
Google Reader Notifier Firefox Extension – useful as it tells you how many unread posts you are behind on without having to log into the site or go to google.com/ig
There are some Community provided extensions to Powershell which look pretty good – the clipboard functions would be useful. I may be getting started on powershell in the near future with work – we want to come up with some scripted server checkups routines that will save us having to obtain the data by hand – WMI scripting with vbs script seems the favourite so far (as it is unlikely to need installing) whereas powershell is new (and needs installing)
Microsoft have some programming tutorials for beginners – it’s been a while since I did any MS programming so I may take a look myself. It is split into two tracks, web based programming and desktop programming.
At work we all have nicknames – mine is Batman because I always have gadgets and tools for any problem at work but now we have been told we need to take the superhero quiz. I was pleased with my result but interestingly enough I’m only 25% batman –
Your results:
You are Spider-Man
| You are intelligent, witty, a bit geeky and have great power and responsibility. |
