Had an email back from

Had an email back from symantec today – the version of Ghost that I had been using to restore selected files from an image had not worked. The email contained a new copy of Ghost Explorer that does the job. I can now restore all files from an image using ghost explorer….shame that I’ve already re-installed the laptop though 🙁

Finally finished the office –

Finally finished the office – the wooden flooring went in today and finally finished about 5pm. I’m shattered now, but very pleased with the results as it looks really good. Tried moving the computer desk back into the room and the wheel on the desk broke off – so i’m going to have to try and get some new wheels from somewhere. I was really grateful for the Black and Decker Quatro and workmate that I got for Christmas. They had their first real use today – so much so that I had to stop half way through and recharge the battery, but with only an hour charging time, I was able to have lunch whilst I was waiting so no time wasted!

Found a useful app called

Found a useful app called Watchcat that enables you to hide applications to the system tray either from a mouse click, or even on a timer if the application has not been used for a certain time. Looks pretty good.

Also found an app called DailyRotation that sits in the system tray. Clicking on it takes your browser to the next url in the list. Although its not got a good User Interface to add URL’s, once you’ve set it up it works very well.

Both these apps are freeware too!

Hmm – apparently the W2k

Hmm – apparently the W2k servers that my host uses came under attack yesterday – what worries me is that they weren’t protected in the first place……Their email is as follows

At approximately 18:30 2nd July 2002, our network came under attack from a new
worm/virus, similar to the code red worm of last year.
Once infected by this worm, these machines began to scan the Internet for other
vulnerable hosts to infect, this created a massive amount of traffic within our
network, saturating certain links and overloading routers.
Our London based servers which include control panel, mail and UNIX web site
services, were largely unaffected, however access to our Doncaster based data
centre which hosts Windows 2000 web sites and the majority of customer dedicated
and co-located servers was slow at best.
Due to the nature of this attack, it was particularly difficult and time
consuming to diagnose, however once the cause had been established, the infected
hosts were immediately disconnected from the network and normal service was
resumed at approximately 00:00 3rd July 2002.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this unfortunate incident, and
thank you for your patience.
