What a nightmare. It’s now 3 hours into the restore and I’m just cataloguing the tape for the first time….
First the BIOS detects the 80GB drive (which incidentally is REALLY loud) but when NT comes to use the disk it see’s an 8MB (not GB) disk. I had to burn two copies of Maxtor’s Maxblast as the first one kept telling me it couldn’t load DOS. Then I tried w2k boot cd and created a partition of 8GB. Back to NT which decides it can’t access partitions bigger than 4gb, so I then deleted partitions and had the opportunity to create a 4gb partition.Install NT, go into disk manager and still only 8gb. Decide to load Maxblast which tells me that you need sp3 on NT4 to see disks bigger than 8gb – anyone else know that? Sp6 installed, hoping that would fix the problem – it did! Phew – can now see 80gb disk…unfortunately nic doesn’t work, neither does the adaptec card. Take case cover off, determine exact adaptec model, install driver and without a reboot the card is detected along with the tape drive. Start off restore…
