grrrrr – I’ve received one real virus this week and several chain letters telling me that Nortons cant detect jdbgmg.exe and that it is a new virus that av software can’t detect. Well suprise – its NOT a virus, instead its a standard part of windows – which is why av software doesn’t pick it up.
In future, if you get warnings such as this do the following;-
1. Determine why your av software is not picking up the latest updates – after all that is why you pay the subscription – so they must be kept up to date (and it would therefore pick up these “new” viruses.
2. Check out the warning on the internet. If it warns you about jdbgmg.exe then type in jdbgmg into www.google.com or your favourite search engine. You are likely to find out whether this is a hoax or not within seconds. AND if its a real virus, then you will get links on where to get updates and removal patches. (I found F-Prots page within 5 seconds with this method
3.Don’t believe everything your friends tell you on the net – always check it out for yourselves and finally….
4. DONT RUN ATTACHMENTS from people you dont know, attachments that you are not expecting. If in doubt, email the person who sent you the attachment and ask them if they meant to send it…if they have no idea what you are talking about then its probably a virus on their machine!
5. If you really must send out a warning to everyone, then please put the address’s in the bcc so people don’t do a reply to all. That way you are respecting other peoples private email address’s!
