Went into Dixons this morning

Went into Dixons this morning and discovered something interesting. They do a caller display unit which only displays the last number that called for £2.99, or they have another one for £6.99 which shows last 30 calls and tells you if you have a message waiting with call minder. However, both of these give you three months access to three Select services free! Seeing as though that is worth a lot more than £2.99 I bought one!
It also comes with a splitter so i thought I’d do some more tests on my asdl line and to work out whether I could have a splitter on the phone line to split one socket into two outlets, and then where I would need a filter installed. Putting the splitter into the phone socket, and then the ASDL router (standard phone plug with filter installed) into one of the splitter sockets, and a Filter into the other socket with a phone plugged in works. It didn’t previously. Swapped out the filter and I have a duff filter which explains why it didn’t work. This means I have bought a new Dect phone when I didn’t really need to (as I thought I couldn’t have a phone and asdl socket upstairs so the Dect was purchased as a cordless so the base station was downstairs but the phone kept upstairs). Still I’ve got used to the two mobiles – very handy.

Now just need to decide on the select services. Caller display will be very handy (the handsets include 10 numbers on caller display so i’m not going to actually use the new unit apart from as a splitter!) and I might use Call Sign which I can give to either people at work or job agencies!. However if I get used to having this I’d have to end up getting it permanently after 3 months so I’m not sure.
