Poetry 101

This week I came across this youthful poetic offering entitled "All Hail the Honey Monster!" - even though it doesn't quite scan toward the end, it inspired me to blog a short verse penned by myself, with tongue embedded firmly in cheek, back in May 1991.

*Ahem*

"Receive!" he said, "and do it now.
Just raise your hands - I'll show you how;
So flap your tongue and roll your eyes,
And then emit some wordless cries.

Please leave your seats and come on down -
From now you'll smile and never frown.
Come join the crowd of those who kneeled,
Had hands laid on, and then were healed."

"We can't!", they said. "We don't believe".
But he just smiled, and bawled: "RECEIVE!"
He yelled, he cried, he went beserk -
But they sat still... it didn't work.

They didn't leave their seats that day -
They curled the lip and went away;
While those who came with stick and crutch
All limped away despite his touch.

So when you hear him plead "Receive!"
Stop up your ears - don't be deceived,
And even if his face turns blue
Say "GO AWAY! IT ISN'T TRUE!"
