I am ready to come home. Although travelling is not my greatest delight, I am looking forward to getting back to the UK. I have missed my wife and children very badly. I have missed the pulpit at home. I have missed the football!
The jeep journey to Varanasi was very bumpy. I think I left my stomach in one of the villages that we passed. I certainly left my favourite black woolly hat on the seat when I got out at Varanasi airport. 6 thousand miles and three weeks of togetherness spoiled by a single act of carelessness. Aargh!
Varanasi to Delhi was uneventful. Spent most of the time contemplating the last 3 weeks and praying for those folk that I had met. Itching to get on the plane at Delhi now.
Transfer between the terminals at Indira Gandhi International Airport was smooth. Had to nip out to get a package that I promised to send on to Raju Abraham's son, but that only took a moment. Customs opened the package - could have been a bomb I suppose...
We now have 8 hours to wait in the Visitors' Lounge before our BA0142 flight to Heathrow. Merv used about three hours witnessing to an Aussie student travelling home via Bangkok, while I got into conversation with an attractive German woman in her mid-thirties who lives in London and is an independent film producer by profession. Suffice it to say that my opportunity to witness was more visually appealling than Merv's (don't email me to complain, I'm only joking...) Useful conversation.
Once the Aussie had gone, Tanya (the witnessee) and I sat with Merv and chatted until just before midnight when they were calling our flight. Email tickets were no problem! They let us in! Pheew! I hate those skimpy bits of paper and only trust them when I am actually sitting on the plane.
Departure time 03.25 hrs. Excellent.
