Secunderabad

Don't get me wrong: I like curry. If, however, I have to ever eat any more of it, it will be 20 billion years too soon.

We ate breakfast with Dineker & Suweta this morning. It was lovely - but more curry. Dineker was feeling fragile after last night's meal - the first time I have seen that amongst our Indian friends. I had to smile. His poor wife Suweta was really pale with morning sickness, so Merv and I were expected to eat enough for everyone.

Left Vijayawada at about 2.30pm because train was delayed. I don't think that I mentioned that this is the largest and busiest railway junction in India, did I? Well it is.

Sad to say goodbye to Job really. Before we left, we were bought some dodgy water by Devraj - had a mouthful and then binned the rest. Normally we drink Aquavita or Kinley's - this was a new label called 'Hepatitis A'. I have felt ok so far, however ...

The train journey lasted nearly 8 hours! Fascinating landscape. Passed shepherds with flocks of goats, miles of open countryside, villages and mountains. Incredible. I so wish my wife were here. It seems so natural to want to share it all with her, and the experience is poorer because of her absence.

Back to the railroad. At one station you could see the monkeys walking the Hindu temple walls nearby - baboons of some sort that are worshipped by the people. Amazing.

When we arrived in Secunderabad, we were collected by Ashavadam and taken straight out to 'The Viceroy' hotel to eat. Took a couple of photographs inside - elegance, opulence, extravagance. So many different curry dishes! Back to house for the night. Early flight to Delhi tomorrow.
